ASK: Can you help us create our mentoring packs? These packs contain the basic necessities for early sessions. You can contribute by assisting us with printing - e.g., getting to know your games, photobooks of LUL projects, etc.- and/or buying materials such as art supplies.

Light Up Learning is a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO) providing one-to-one mentoring for high school students. We work in 12 partner schools across Edinburgh, the Borders, and the Lothians

The programme aims to address issues of unequal access to education and disengagement in the classroom by creating low-stress, supportive, and playful learning environments for young people who have experienced disadvantage. We place each student in charge of their own learning and give them the resources, skills, and contacts they need to achieve their potential.

At Light Up Learning, we’re all about making learning exciting, personal, and fun!

We pair young people aged 12-18 from challenging environments with mentors who help them explore what they care about, in their own way and at their own pace. Our dedicated mentors help them explore their interests in a low-stress, playful environment, fostering creativity, confidence, and curiosity.

When meeting a new mentee in their first session, every mentor has ways of breaking the ice. The mentor might show the young person photos of past projects on our website, use conversation starters to talk about their interests, or create mind maps.

While laptops are great for accessing information and developing research skills, we’ve found that having physical materials to engage with helps foster communication, especially in early sessions.

We would like to provide all our mentors with packs equipping them with tools to set the tone with new mentees. These would include printed materials designed by and for our mentoring team.

Can you help us create our mentoring packs? These packs contain the basic necessities for early sessions.

Included in each pack:
-A sturdy bag for their supplies
-Stationery and colouring materials
-Notebook
-Photo book of past projects
-Deck of conversation cards–designed by our mentors!

Your donation of in-kind materials and printing will place inspiration for learning projects directly into the hands of our mentees, while empowering our mentors to approach their early sessions with confidence.
