Village Hall Week – 16-22 March 2026

17 Mar 2026

It is Village Hall Week, and we are pleased to support this important campaign highlighted by Borders Community Action. Village halls play a vital role across the ESES City Region Deal area, particularly in our rural communities, where they help sustain local economies and support the wellbeing of residents. These communities face distinct challenges, and initiatives like this shine a light on the value of the spaces that bring people together.

This campaign is led by Scottish Rural Action in partnership with Action with Communities in Rural England. Their vision is for vibrant, connected rural and island communities that have control over their futures and contribute to building an inclusive, just and sustainable society.

Village halls are vital hubs in rural Scotland, providing essential services and encouraging community connection. They serve as multi-purpose venues for social, cultural, and educational activities, offering spaces for events, workshops, and community meetings.

Village halls often serve as the central hub for local services such as health outreach programmes, clubs, and support groups, especially in areas where transport links and services may be limited. These spaces also facilitate local democracy by hosting elections, public consultations, and community engagement events, making them integral to rural life.

In addition to their social function, many village halls provide access to technology, such as public Wi-Fi, which can be a lifeline for residents in areas with poor connectivity. They also support economic development by enabling local businesses, markets, and small-scale enterprises to thrive through events, fairs, and networking opportunities.

Why is this so important?

The Scottish Community Wealth Building (CWB) Bill was passed by the Scottish Parliament on 10th February 2026. It is a new law passed by the Scottish Parliament that aims to keep more money, jobs, and opportunities within local communities rather than letting wealth flow out to large corporations or distant investors.

How Suppliers can help:

Download our Social Business Directory and discover three village halls in the Scottish Borders: Hutton, Oxnam, and Tweedsmuir. Each one offers welcoming, affordable venue hire, and every booking does more than secure a great space. It directly invests in rural communities, strengthens local economies, and helps these vital community hubs tackle inequalities.

Choose a venue that gives back. Your event can make a real difference.
