Heron Bros. supports an inclusive cycling club

In-Tandem East Lothian (ITEL) is a tandem cycling club based at Queen Margaret University (QMU) that launched in October 2024.

They are a friendly and inclusive tandem club where people with disabilities can enjoy the fun, freedom, and health benefits of cycling in a safe setting.

Their mission is to provide safe, enjoyable cycling experiences for individuals with disabilities who may face challenges riding solo bikes.

With trained front riders, they offer outdoor exercise's physical and mental health benefits in an inclusive, supportive environment while combating social isolation.

In-Tandem is entirely run by volunteers, and the ESES Community Team became aware of them through their relationship with Volunteer Centre East Lothian, the Third Sector Interface (TSI) for East Lothian.

Each Local Authority Area in Scotland has a Third Sector Interface (TSI), which provides the third sector with a single access point for support and advice.

The Ask

"We have 10 bikes and are in the process of getting an e-tandem. To help keep our riders safe, we are asking for 10 Hi-Vis Vests in various sizes."

Heron Bros, the contractor currently building the Edinburgh Innovation Hub – a significant joint venture between East Lothian Council, Queen Margaret University and ESES City Region Deal- fulfilled their 'ask'.

Heron Bros. made this donation as part of their social impact being delivered through the construction phase of the Edinburgh Innovation Hub. Their vision is to secure wider social, economic, and environmental benefits for the communities they work in and they achieve this vision through collaborative stakeholder relationships.

Heron Bros recognises that sustainability creates value for their business and is critical to their future, and has therefore placed sustainability at the core of their business strategy.

This donation is a good example of supporting ‘The Sustainable Development Goals’ 3. Good Health and Well-being and 10. Reduced inequalities.

A big thank you to ESES Communities for facilitating a generous donation of high-viz vests from Heron Bros., the Innovation Hub contractor at QMU. Your support helps keep us safe and visible!
