Community Film screening equipment needed

Description

Drylaw Neighbourhood Centre has been at the heart of our community since 1995, when local residents came together and successfully petitioned for a dedicated space of their own. From the beginning, the centre has existed to support the whole community, especially those most vulnerable, by meeting social, cultural, economic and environmental needs. Today, the centre is a vibrant hub of activity.

Our Ask

Every month, members of our community gather at the centre for something quietly powerful, our Positive Climate Film Club, a space where people come together to learn, reflect, and feel hopeful about the future we’re building.

We share a warm vegan soup and a hot drink, then settle in to watch films that spotlight inspiring, community-led responses to the climate and ecological emergency. After each screening, we host an open roundtable conversation with invited speakers, giving neighbours the chance to connect, question, and imagine new possibilities together.

Right now, we’re doing all of this with an old screen that simply can’t keep up. The picture is dim, the sound is hard to hear, and it limits the experience for the people who come along each month seeking connection, inspiration, and clarity.

To keep this growing community space vibrant and accessible, we’re looking for a soundbar and a drop‑down screen that can be permanently installed at the centre. This upgrade would transform the experience, making the films easier to see and hear, supporting guest speakers, and helping us create a welcoming environment where everyone feels included.

We could also increase the number of people we can host by 25%.

Ideal Tech Scenario

The space is around 10m x 7m wide and seats between 35 and 40 people.

  • A ceiling-mounted manual retraction screen of a widescreen ratio, or a wall- mounted screen
  • Dimensions: 265cm x 149cm on a ratio of 16:9 at 120" size
  • A sound bar

Additional Benefits

Upgrading to a new screen would also make the centre more appealing to venue-hire clients, helping us attract more bookings. This increased income would directly support our mission to become more financially self‑sufficient and sustain the services our community relies on.
