Support the Twelve Towers Project

Archaeology Scotland
Description
We are looking for financial support for the erection of an interpretation board at Bedrule in the Scottish Borders.

Our Twelve Towers project was established to meet the needs of local community organisations, the educational and inclusion needs of young people and the needs of the heritage sites in the Borders. We have engaged people with their local heritage through intergenerational workshops and a range of archaeological fieldwork along the Rule Water. A key part of this was to provide skills training and opportunities for local young people through our Attainment through Archaeology programme. This programme helps to build young people’s confidence and to open their horizons and provide opportunities for them to engage and learn about their local heritage.

The project aimed to deliver on these aims through the delivery of archaeological excavations, walks, attainment programmes and by assessing the need for further skills-based development. Local heritage and archaeology societies, such as the Hawick Archaeological Society, played an important part along with local community organisations and institutions, especially the Bedrule Village Hall and Bedrule Manse.
We have achieved a series of key milestones already, including, excavation at Bedrule Castle (where we need the first interpretation Board installed) and a first exploratory phase of excavation at Bonchester Townhead. Both these excavations gave 231 people direct access to the archaeological exploration of medieval and late-medieval sites.
Requirements
We would promote our Interpretation Board sponsor’s kind generosity through Archaeology Scotland social media channels:- Twitter: 33.5 k Followers, Facebook: 17 k Followers, Instagram: 4 k Followers and via our regular e-newsletter and our website. The board would also have the name/logo of the sponsor on it.
The cost of the Interpretation Board for Bedrule would be £2800 including installation and design. We recommend using Osprey, a company based in Coldstream (see here About Us | mysite (ospreyco.com) )as we know from previous experience that they provide a quality, waterproof, sustainable product.
