Edinburgh International Data Facility

Project Lead: University of Edinburgh
Status: Complete
Strand: Innovation
Town: Roslin

Funded through the Data Driven Innovation (DDI) programme, the Edinburgh International Data Facility is a state of the art analytics and storage facility.

It is managed by EPCC and located at the Advanced Computing Facility (ACF), the University of Edinburgh’s supercomputing and data centre, and is central to the City Region Deals’ aim to make the region Europe’s data capital.

Alongside other advanced computing systems located at the ACF, EIDF will play a key role in facilitating major research and development projects, driving innovation in the region – but also promoting collaboration with other national and international stakeholders.

The EIDF went online in July 2021, and represents a key milestone in the progress of the DDI programme.

The EIDF will provide a very high-powered platform in which the public and private stakeholders can share data and work with data in a safe and secure environment. It will be widely accessible for researchers and innovators in the university and elsewhere, while being fully GDPR compliant. The EIDF will provide access to an amount of data and a processing capacity not normally seen
