Biffa Supports Young Writers
Biffa provides waste management solutions to businesses, organisations, and local authorities across the UK. As a long-standing partner of the University of Edinburgh for more than 12 years, Biffa was keen to extend the impact of this relationship by supporting communities across Edinburgh and South East Scotland.
Super Power Agency is an Edinburgh-based literacy charity dedicated to helping young people discover the power of their imagination, creativity, and voice. Through creative writing programmes delivered in schools, the charity works to improve literacy rates while building confidence, self-belief, and engagement among young people.
Working in some of Scotland's most disadvantaged and under-resourced communities, Super Power Agency encourages young people to develop their writing skills and express themselves creatively. At the end of each project, participants see their work professionally published in anthologies, becoming published authors and celebrating their achievements.
Delivering workshops for more than 1,000 young people each year requires significant resources. Super Power Agency reached out through ESES Communities seeking support with essential stationery supplies, including:
- A4 lined paper
- Ballpoint pens
- Writing pencils
- Coloured markers
- Plain flipchart paper
- A5 jotters and notebooks
- Sticky labels for name badges
These materials play a vital role in ensuring every young person has the tools they need to participate fully in the charity's creative writing programmes.
After seeing the request, Biffa was eager to help. The team arranged a dedicated stationery order for Super Power Agency, along with a selection of Biffa branded items.
The supplies were delivered in person by colleagues from Biffa's Glasgow office, ensuring the charity had the resources needed to continue running its workshops and supporting young writers across Edinburgh.
The donation will directly support creative writing workshops across the city, providing young people with the practical resources needed to explore their ideas, develop their skills, and express themselves with confidence.
By helping to meet the cost of essential materials, Biffa's support also allows Super Power Agency to direct more funding towards creating opportunities and experiences for the young people they work with.
The stationery donation from Biffa will directly support our creative writing workshops across Edinburgh. These resources give young people the materials they need to write and express themselves, while helping us keep programme costs down and invest more funding directly into opportunities for young people. Thank you, Biffa.
We were keen to support Super Power Agency, whose work helps young people build confidence and creativity, and we were pleased to provide resources to support this. It's great to see Biffa's partnership with the University of Edinburgh extend beyond the delivery of our waste services to support organisations that can make a real difference in the community.
Creating Community Impact
This donation demonstrates how supplier partners can make a meaningful contribution beyond their contractual services. By connecting organisations with community groups that need support, ESES Communities helps create partnerships that deliver tangible benefits for people and communities across the region.
