Sony Supports Community Film Screenings
Since 1995, the Drylaw Neighbourhood Centre has been a welcoming heart for their community, born from the vision of local residents who campaigned for a space to call their own. Their core mission has always been to uplift the entire community, especially those needing extra support, by nurturing social, cultural, economic, and environmental well-being. Today, the centre is more vibrant and active than ever.
Each month, their community comes together for something quietly inspiring: the Positive Climate Film Club. It’s a welcoming space to learn, reflect, and find hope for the future we are creating together. Over a bowl of warm vegan soup and a hot drink, they gather to watch films that highlight powerful, community-driven solutions to the climate crisis. Every screening is followed by an open roundtable discussion featuring guest speakers, giving neighbours a chance to connect, ask questions, and imagine new possibilities.
The team reached out to request new screen equipment including a projector as their existing stock needed to be upgraded which would allow the centre to be able to expand their offerings and quality of screenings.
The Sony Biotechnology division of Sony Europe provides biomedical equipment to the University of Edinburgh, as part of this the University promotes community benefits within the local community. The Sony Biotechnology team saw the request and were able to link products from another division within Sony Europe to help offer a premium projector and get it shipped.
This donation not only has improved the clarity of screening but is benefitting all who use the centre including; the Tea and Toast group, which is a social group for elderly locals, the Young at Heart group who will benefit by watching old films too.
This support will also mean that by helping the centre in upgrading their AV offering, the centre will be more appealing to venue-hire clients, helping to attract more bookings. This increased income would directly support their mission to become more financially self‑sufficient and sustain the services their community relies on.
Working for Sony is an honour, because I get to provide robust, reliable solutions that enable scientists to push the boundaries of biomedical research.
