SLS (Scientific Laboratory Supplies)

Scientific Laboratory Supplies is a supplier of laboratory equipment, consumables and chemicals to universities, NHS, Biotech and industrial laboratories throughout the UK.

As part of their supply contract with the University of Edinburgh, they are required to engage with the ESES Communities Team to explore opportunities for social value investment in Edinburgh and the surrounding areas of Southeast Scotland. This is the second year of collaboration, and this year they were particularly keen to support organisations in Fife.

BRAG (Benarty Regeneration Action Group)

BRAG Enterprises originally started with the aim of improving the life chances of people in the Benarty area of Central Fife. Today, 35 years later, the social enterprise now works across a much wider region, helping disadvantaged communities achieve a more prosperous future.

One of the projects is ‘Community Roots’, a community garden dedicated to cultivating a welcoming and inclusive space where people of all ages and backgrounds can come together to grow, learn, and connect.  

The project, by its nature, is inclusive and supports individuals suffering from social isolation and loneliness in feeling involved and empowered within their own community in a safe and nurturing environment.  

 

The garden is open 365 days a year, and they are always looking for help to maintain this beautiful space.

Gerry and Megan from SLS were keen to get involved. You can see them in action below!

On the day, they assisted in creating compost for the Brag Community Garden, which will be used to grow fresh, healthy, and organic food for the local community and shared through their weekly pantry event. They also helped prepare the Children's Garden for weekly sessions, where parents and toddlers gather for songs, books and food in a beautiful green space.
