SLS contacted us after seeing that saw that Play Midlothian request of Sponsorship of Christmas Hamper for Fundraising to support their services.
Gerry Boner, Scientific Laboratory Supplies Regional Sales Manager, recognized Play Midlothian's urgent need and proactively offered support by purchasing vouchers for Play Midlothian. Gerry personally delivered the vouchers and met with Sarah Wright (Interim CEO at Play Midlothian) who explained a little more about the impact their support will provide children in Midlothian.
Play Midlothian is an award-winning small charity that supports children’s health, wellbeing and development through play-based services, primarily outdoors. Each year they transform the lives of hundreds of children in need, including children with disabilities, from minority ethnic backgrounds or living in areas of multiple deprivation. Their purpose is to enable every child in Midlothian to thrive through play by creating opportunities and removing barriers. They focus on play because they know how much this benefits children’s health, wellbeing and development. It is important for their lives in the here and now as well as for their future life chances.
In an attempt to raise vital funds to help them to continue their services, Play Midlothian were looking for support from local companies to cover the costs of supplying a Christmas hamper raffle at their Winter fundraising event. The raffle raised over £400 towards their Festive fundraising appeal. All funds directly went towards providing services to children and their families in Midlothian - enabling over 700 children each year to thrive through play in Midlothian.
“We are so grateful that Scientific Laboratory Supplies have chosen to support our mission of enabling every child in Midlothian to thrive through play by creating opportunities and removing barriers.
Charities across the UK are facing challenging times trying to navigate Government funding cuts and the cost of living crisis. This donation allowed us to diversify our fundraising opportunities and run our first ever Festive fundraising appeal, which in turn allows us to continue to get on with the job of making a difference, ensuring every child can experience the play they need to thrive, without worrying over bills. We can’t thank them enough.”

It was a privilege to be involved and to be able to assist, even in such a small way. These activities really are a wake-up call and an acute reminder on the difficulties faced by so many children.
