Recent Support Burnfoot Community Futures

 

Burnfoot Community Futures is a charity based in Burnfoot, Hawick, in the Scottish Borders. They aim to improve the well-being, quality of life and opportunities for residents within their community.

It was founded in 2006 by a group of volunteers following a consultation on improving residents' lives.

Burnfoot Foodshare project

Work on the Burnfoot Foodshare project began in 2018 as part of our climate change initiative, with the aim of redistributing surplus food from supermarkets that would otherwise have gone to landfill back into the community for free.

Since its launch, the project has become an essential support service, now assisting an average of 100 families each week. Food is collected from local supermarkets, produce grown in their Community Garden, and through the Cyrenians project, and is distributed to the community three days per week by their dedicated team of volunteers.

 Burnfoot Foodshare is not a food bank and does not operate a referral process; the programme is open to anyone in the community who wishes to access it.

Their request for support

Their main donations consist of fresh produce, such as bread/vegetables. Therefore, donations of long-life, shelf-stable items are always in high demand.

 

The ESES Communities Team were approached by one of the University of Edinburgh suppliers who were keen to add value to their contract. They had reviewed the portal and were impressed by the vital work they are doing for their community.

 As a company, they recognise the importance of giving back and supporting organisations that make a real difference to people's lives and said that "by working together, we can help build stronger, more resilient communities for everyone."
