Lab Specialist Services Equips Local Students
Laboratory Specialist Services (LSS) designs and manufactures fume cupboards, fume extract systems and a range of laboratory furniture for Industrial, research, pharmaceutical, and educational laboratory applications.
Their factory is based in Scotland’s central belt, but their project and maintenance teams cover contracts all around the UK. One of their customers is the University of Edinburgh, and as part of the ESES City Region Deal, they encouraged LSS to review the community investment opportunities on the ESES Communities Portal.
The School Bank West Lothian immediately captured their attention.
The School Bank West Lothian is a volunteer-led group aiming to improve the lives of children in families in West Lothian experiencing financial hardship by providing them with a brand new school uniform and other clothing and equipment required for the school day.
They work tirelessly to improve the situation for children and families in West Lothian, and every contribution they receive helps improve lives.
The ESES Communities Team worked with Maggie Gillespie, the Administration Manager for LSS who made a £500 financial contribution to The School Bank West Lothian's request to fund school uniform essentials for young people in the area.
Although West Lothian has one of the largest school clothing grants in Scotland, many families they help are ineligible for the grant or find that it doesn’t cover the cost of uniforms, supplies and shoes across the school year.
Currently 1 in 4 children in West Lothian are living in poverty, which highlights how important the work that the team deliver.
This donation helps encourage equity in education, breaking cycles of poverty, and ensuring basic human dignity.
"Laboratory Specialist Services is proud to support the School Bank in West Lothian through this initiative. It’s important to us to give back to communities close to our team, and this project delivers meaningful, practical support to families who need it most.
We look forward to continuing our involvement and exploring how we can make an even greater positive impact over time.We were very keen to support the School Bank initiative, as it directly benefits families and children in a local community close to our directors. We believe it’s important to give back in a meaningful way, and this project stood out as it provides practical support to those who need it most.
Being able to contribute to something with a real, immediate impact locally made this an easy decision for us, and we’re pleased to play a small part in supporting such a valuable initiative."
