Digital Welcome Packs for Refugees

Description

We are the Edinburgh Refugee Sponsorship Circle, and our mission is to facilitate the resettlement of refugee families and individuals, providing them with practical support and a warm welcome upon arrival in Edinburgh.

We are an all-volunteer-run community group that organises safe pathways for families fleeing conflict zones and welcomes them into our community through the Community Sponsorship scheme.

The Ask:

We are seeking support to create four digital welcome packs, each of which includes: one laptop, one phone, one Wi-Fi dongle, and one pair of headphones.

We have welcomed four families so far and plan to welcome two more in 2026.

 

 

What is Community Sponsorship?

Community Sponsorship is a UK government scheme allowing community groups to resettle a refugee family in their local area.

Crucially, it gives families fleeing persecution and war a safe and legal route to the UK as well as immediate access to support and a community.

​We are a group of friends living in Edinburgh and participating in the scheme. In September 2020, we welcomed a family of six. We were only the second successful Community Sponsorship group in Scotland, but our network of peers has grown steadily.

Energised by our positive experience with the scheme, we welcomed a second family in February 2023 and, more recently, an individual in March 2025. 

​We welcomed another person in September 2025 and are planning to resettle a family in 2026.
