Description

Prospect Community Housing is a community based housing association in Wester Hailes, South West Edinburgh where we provide and maintain affordable high quality housing for 900 tenant households. We were set up by local residents in 1988 to create better homes in the community, and we remain locally led. We are proud to have been firmly rooted in Wester Hailes for 34 years providing a wide range of services including tenancy sustainment support, welfare benefits advice and planned maintenance programmes. Our core business is social housing but we have always believed that contributing to a strong and vibrant community requires more than the provision of houses. We support a range of community projects and always work in partnership with local organisations. While we work first and foremost with our tenants, our community activity projects have always been accessible to anyone in the community as we are keen to help with wider community concerns and solutions.

With the sharp rises in fuel bills, many people in our community are facing very difficult times over this winter. We know that they are anxious about putting their heating on, and that some will ration their fuel use so that they can afford other bills. The energy savings packs will make a difference for vulnerable residents by helping reduce fuel bills and increasing warmth in their homes. The items are all relatively low cost, but if people are on a limited income it can be difficult or impossible to invest in energy saving products or higher quality items that help you stay warm. The packs will also help people to start conversations about their fuel bill concerns, money worries etc which will give the chance for more in depth support and referrals for help as a longer-term solution. The slow cookers will help reduce the costs of cooking, and also enable cheaper ingredients to be used. We don’t think everyone will know how to cook this way so we also want to provide meal kits and recipes cards.  We will also offer a cooking group for people to learn together which will also help build confidence and new connections.
