Donation of Sewing Machine

Glencorse Centre
Description

A community centre in Midlothian has benefitted from the donation of an industrial sewing machine thanks to a local printing firm.
The Glencorse Centre was established in January 2014 and is located in the northern edge of the village of Auchendinny, in the valley of River North Esk – a little over a mile north-west of Penicuik.
GMP Print Solutions contacted ESES Communities with an offer of re-homing the machine to a local community cause, which was taken up by the Centre.
The centre provides a range of activities for the local community including fitness classes, wellbeing projects, a community café and community garden as well as being a hub for many other local clubs and organisations.
It also has facilities for sports and hosts a lunch club for senior citizens as well as breastfeeding classes.
The offer of the machine came at a timely point, as the centre is looking to start a new sewing group to promote sustainable fabric use and build garment creation/repair skills in the community.
Director of the Centre Kate Williamson said: “We were delighted to receive the offer of a sewing machine, which is really great timing given that we're just about to start a sewing club. These sorts of items can be costly and would present a challenge to an organisation such as ourselves to purchase. It’s great that GMP who are based just up the road in Loanhead were able to not only gift us this but also deliver it, it certainly wouldn’t have fitted in the car! This came about through ESES Communities and the site seems a fantastic platform for organisations such as ourselves. Hopefully both ourselves and the groups that we host can benefit again in the future. Everyone should register!”
Roger Parry, founder of GMP Print said: “We’ve worked with ESES Communities a few times now – providing leaflets for the Heartlands Market down in Galashiels, working on the new signage at the Edinburgh Remakery’s new premises in Edinburgh and now giving a new lease of life to this surplus equipment in a community venue just down the road. Businesses and their staff can really profit socially from connecting with communities and charities, and I’d encourage firms of all shapes, sizes and industries to register and get in touch with the ESES Communities team.”
