Location: West Lothian

Description

River Kids was founded in 2005 with the sole purpose of supporting disadvantaged children and their families in the West Lothian area.

Our services:

  • Through our referral system, we provide recycled and new clothing, shoes, and toys to families who are struggling financially or, due to circumstances, have limited possessions.
  • We provide volunteering and employment opportunities for young adults who are experiencing barriers to employment.
  • We manage the West Lothian Toy Appeal, which provides gifts on birthdays and at Christmas.

Background:

The Toy Appeal started in 1984 and since its inception has helped over 76,000 disadvantaged kids in West Lothian. River Kids has managed the appeal on behalf of the West Lothian community since 2009, and last year we helped provide a bag of gifts to 2,784 kids from 780 families.

We receive referrals from various agencies, including Social Work, Health Centres, Citizens Advice, Housing Associations, Homeless Units, and primary and secondary schools.

We then collect donations of new toys and pass these on to the families to ensure that their child/children will have presents to open on Christmas morning.

We require donations of toys (generally around the £15-£20 mark).

How can you help?

Toys can be dropped off at various points across West Lothian or purchased via River Kid's Amazon Wish List.
