Description

A monthly local market supporting independent traders and sustainable makers in the Scottish Borders has benefitted from the kind donation of leaflet printing thanks to GMP Print Solutions

The Heartland Market is a creative space for local traders to showcase their talents and products, to inspire and entice the community within the heart of Galashiels.

Taking place monthly on Saturdays, the Market focuses on promoting the work of independent makers, designers and businesses from Galashiels and the surrounding Scottish Borders area.

Heartland Market enlisted little helpers to distribute leaflets

It was founded by three women who own local businesses with the aim of improving the town centre for the benefit of the local community and those who may visit or shop there.

The leaflets have been distributed and displayed in the town and surrounding areas in order to publicise the Market to local people, traders and with the aim to entice visiting shoppers from other areas.

One of the Market’s founders, Lauren Jamieson, has a stall for her business The Colourful Edit which makes colourful fashion accessories from their studio in the town using sustainable materials,  methods and packaging.

The other two founding members are 'Esther McLuckie, from Luckie Beans Coffee Roasters, a multi-award winning coffee roasting business also focusing on sustainable sourcing and with a presence at Haymarket station in Edinburgh and Emily McGowan of McGowan Marketing – which works to promote the brands of many other local businesses.

Lauren said “We were delighted to have been made aware of the kind offer by GMP Print to community organisations and good causes across the region. It really ties in with our ethos of communities and businesses working together to create prosperous and vibrant high streets that are a joy to visit for local people. As well as supporting the businesses and local traders who create jobs and bring prosperity, there are a number of good causes and charity shops within the footprint of the Market that we are delighted will also share in the increased footfall to our town centre.”

Roger Parry, founder of GMP Print said: “We’ve supported a couple of causes through ESES Communities and what struck us about the request from Heartland Market is their focus on making the high street the place to be again. The core of our business is in designing and installing signage for businesses and shops, so it’s really encouraging to see different local businesses coming together to promote sustainable, local shopping.”
