Community Renewal transforms communities by empowering and engaging individuals in community activity to improve their health, learning and employability. 

Operating just up the road through Community Renewal’s centre on Pennywell Road, the Pantry has recently been revamped to predominantly provide a selection of healthier goods namely, fresh fruits and vegetables. Their main supplier is Edinburgh Community Food.

As you can see from the photographs, they have 1kg bowls out on the table, which are £1:00 each – these costings are around 5-10% cheaper than what individuals would buy at a local supermarket. Some other items are sold individually e.g. leeks – 2 for £1:00.

They also give away free cat and dog food (from the Edinburgh Cat and Dog Home), as well as complimentary feminine hygiene products.  

When they receive other donations from local charities/companies, they place these too on the shelving which they then distribute accordingly. They try to keep this as fair as possible by having a 2-item limit per person as these are additionally free-of-charge.

As well as their site at Pennywell, they have two other offices supporting the communities of Bingham, Magdalene and Hays areas of Southeast Edinburgh and at Govanhill in Glasgow.
