Replacing raised beds at a Community Hub
Central Dalkeith & Woodburn Pantry
Description
The Woodburn Community Hub is a busy, shared space in Dalkeith used by multiple local groups. It provides a warm, welcoming environment for the community and support services like The Grassy Riggs, helping people over 65 and their carers reduce loneliness and stay socially connected.
It is also home to a community pantry that provides dignified access to affordable food, and over 100 people, including children and families, visit every week.
The outdoor space at the back of the hub is used to grow fruit and herbs, helping:
- Teach children where food comes from
- Provide fresh produce for the pantry
- Create a calm, welcoming space for people to sit and connect
However, the current raised beds are falling apart and no longer fit for purpose, limiting what the space can offer.
Our request:
We are looking for support to transform our outdoor area by:
- Removing the six old raised beds.
- Installing four new, larger planters for fruit, vegetables, and herbs, and a small seating area in the middle where people can relax and connect.
- We would ideally want to make the beds two-tier, with a small window box type arrangement at the rear to plant pockets of pollinating flowers to help increase the crops.
- Creating a seated garden space where people can relax, connect, and enjoy the environment.
Any funding or support towards this project would be much appreciated, and we would welcome a discussion with anyone who thinks they can help.
