Sewing Class Resources
Granton Goes Greener
Description
Granton Goes Greener
Granton Parish Church is part of the Eco Congregation network, joining a worldwide movement which helps churches make the link between environmental issues, Christian faith and demonstrating a commitment to better stewardship of the earth’s resources.
In 2018 they were awarded funding from the Climate Challenge Fund to set up the Granton Goes Greener project which will look at ways to reduce CO2 emissions within their existing buildings and work with the local community of Granton to ‘Go Greener’.
The core of the project is "Share'n'Wear"-a free clothing bank, where second-hand clothes and shoes are provided and offer support to anyone in need. The free weekly sewing class is aimed at tackling poverty, learning new skills and reducing social isolation in our multicultural community.
Any food vouchers received from businesses will be used to purchase tea/ coffee and biscuits, which will be used as refreshments for the free sewing class or other free workshops organised by the project. Granton Goes Greener delivers in a deprived and diverse area and the free activities are often the only possibility for service users to learn new skills and have some social interaction. Classes are free and normally have between 7-10 people (mainly BAME women) in attendance.
The classes requires approximately £200 of sewing supplies each year as well as ongoing donations of supermarket vouchers.
