Description

An East Lothian Foodbank has benefitted from a donation thanks to a local amateur football team.

Based in the Civic Centre in Tranent, the Trussell Trust Foodbank team have seen a huge increase in the need for donations, saying, "The last 3 months have sadly been the busiest on record with us reaching targets we would never want to meet. This is likely to be the most challenging winter we have ever faced as the soaring cost of living means more and more people are forced to our doors."

Tranent Amateurs are a football club who were founded in 2014 based in Tranent and play in the Lothian and Edinburgh Amateur Football Association (LEAFA) Premier Division.

A spokesperson for their team said: "Sport is a huge part of our local community. Football, rugby, bowls and hockey are examples of some of the sports that are represented from grass routes level all the way through to senior level in and around Tranent. As one of these clubs, we feel that it is important to establish and maintain close links with our community not only within football and sport, but also the wider support mechanisms that are in place to support those who are vulnerable and in need.

It was, therefore, a pleasure to be able to come together and donate to the East Lothian Foodbank and contribute to the fantastic work that they do on a day to day basis. Our intention is to turn this into an annual donation and use this as a basis for further community engagement moving forward."

Elaine Morrison, from East Lothian Foodbank added, "The total weight of the donation was 66.5kg which equals 158 meals. This will really help support our work through the winter months ahead as we are busier than ever."
