Warehouse Volunteering Day

Fresh Start
Description

A charity supporting those previously homeless, as they transition into accommodation, has benefitted from the support of volunteers from Mitie.
Fresh Start is an Edinburgh-based charity helping people who have been homeless get established in their new homes. Working in partnership with volunteers and organisations from a broad section of the community, they deliver a range of services that provide the practical and social support that helps people resettle successfully.
Each year Fresh Start helps thousands of new tenants settle into their homes.
Mitie provide a range of services to the public sector, and currently hold contracts in the Edinburgh & South East Scotland region with local authorities, colleges and the Scottish Parliament.
Six volunteers attended Fresh Start’s warehouse in Pilton, Edinburgh where they helped to sort through donations for their starter packs for those entering accommodation having previously been homeless.
Tasks also included identifying donations that could be sold in the organisation’s charity shop to raise funds and bric-a-brac that could be recycled and repurposed.
Jennifer Melvin, Community Benefits Coordinator at Mitie said: “The work Fresh Start (Scotland) do for Edinburgh and the Lothians is truly incredible and we can’t wait to return to support their Christmas appeal.”
