Support Care Cupboard and Breakfast Club

Description

St Kentigern's Academy is in Blackburn, West Lothian. The school's catchment area is very broad, and pupils come from a wide range of socio-economic backgrounds.

The school has a Family Link Worker who is a member of staff whose role is to support pupils and their families by helping to remove barriers that might affect a young person's learning, attendance, wellbeing, or engagement with school. 

A significant barrier is the impact of poverty, and work is being done tirelessly to reduce these effects and promote inclusion. 

How You Can Help

 

Care Cupboard

The school has a ‘Care Cupboard’ where staff at the school are very good at noticing pupils who they feel need this support. These students are discreetly invited to visit the ‘Care Cupboard’ to get items that can really help.

Pupils are sometimes asked if there are any specific items that would be of benefit to their families. If vouchers were an option, they could then give the pupils the opportunity to purchase items for their homes. 

The school is therefore seeking donations and/or gift vouchers to help stock and maintain the cupboard. 

 

 

Breakfast Club

The school are also starting a Breakfast Club that will be open to all pupils, but specifically targeted at: single parent families; pupils who are in care; and low-income families who do not qualify for free school meals. 

Breakfast Clubs are a great tool for getting the school day off to a positive start, supporting pupils' wellbeing, attendance, social interaction and readiness to learn, while also offering practical support to families.

The school can provide a list of the most urgently required items that can be dropped off.

They would happily accept a supermarket delivery, cash, or supermarket vouchers. Any donations will be gratefully received.
