Description

Coldingham Brave Bayers is a Community Interest Company (CIC) that exists to empower and encourage people to access blue and green spaces through wild swimming and related activities.

Our mission is to ensure that everyone, regardless of their age, gender, background, ability, or identity, has the opportunity to improve their physical, mental and social well-being in a safe, inclusive, and accessible environment.

We are seeking support to acquire wild swimming equipment to improve inclusion.

How it began…

One of our founders was navigating an overwhelming period in her life and turned to outdoor swimming as a way to cope. In the water, she met a friend, and together they unintentionally sparked a community.

During the pandemic, our small circle grew into a movement. By October 2023, we formalised our work and became a CIC, committed to staying small, dynamic, and always present for the people who need us.

Our ask:

We are seeking support to provide accessible wild swimming equipment, including EasyOff™ YULEX® swimming gloves and body warmers, to reduce barriers for individuals with disabilities, long-term health conditions, and limited mobility.

This will enable safe, inclusive participation in open water wellbeing programmes. In addition to improving accessibility, the use of plant-based YULEX® material aligns with our environmental values. As a deforestation-free, ocean-friendly alternative to traditional neoprene, it supports sustainable practice while maintaining high performance.

This equipment will reduce barriers for people with mobility, dexterity, or cold-sensitivity challenges, enabling safe participation in wellbeing programmes and community swims.

Why it matters

Outdoor swimming delivers powerful physical, mental, and emotional benefits, from improved mood and better sleep to boosted immunity and a deep sense of connection with nature.

Simply being outdoors strengthens wellbeing too: clearer breathing, reduced stress, better sleep, stronger immunity, and a noticeable lift in mood.

And community amplifies all of this. It brings belonging, resilience, shared support, and practical opportunities that help people thrive. When people come together, they create strength, stability, and a sense of possibility that no one can build alone.
